Can’t a Republican get a peaceful bite to eat these days?

No, not if your name is Ted Cruz. The Texas senator just became the latest in a long line of conservative politicians, including Sarah Sanders, Kirstjen Nielsen and Mitch McConnell, to be mercilessly heckled by protesters out in public.

On Sunday night in Washington, D.C., Cruz was essentially forced to leave upscale Italian eatery Fiola by protesters opposed to Brett Kavanaugh in light of the multiple sexual misconduct allegations facing the Supreme Court nominee.

In between chants of “We believe survivors,” one man fired off this zinger:

‘Beto’s way hotter than you, dude.’

He was referring, of course, to Beto O’Rourke, Cruz’s Democratic rival in Texas, where the race in the deep Red State looks to go down to the wire.

Here’s a video from Smash Racism DC, which captures the incident:

And another:

In a follow-up tweet, the group vowed there will be more to come.

“This is a message to Ted Cruz, Bret Kavanaugh, Donald Trump and the rest of the racist, sexist, transphobic, and homophobic right-wing scum: You are not safe. We will find you. We will expose you. We will take from you the peace you have taken from so many others,” Smash Racism DC tweeted.

While the Texas race may be heated and the Kavanaugh debate contentious, this kind of behavior is not something that O’Rourke supports:

On Monday night, Kavanaugh said in his first televised interview since the allegations emerged that he is “not going to let false accusations drive us out of the process.” He said he hopes for a fair Senate process on Thursday, when he and at his accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, are set to testify.

Asked if considered withdrawing, he said: “I’m not going anywhere.”
