Rudy Giuliani, left, says former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman is lying by asserting President Trump knew in advance about stolen emails.

President Donald Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani says former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman is “lying” by asserting Trump knew about Democratic emails stolen by hackers before they were made public during the 2016 presidential race.

Manigault Newman was asked on MSNBC Tuesday if Trump knew about the emails before WikiLeaks began releasing them in the summer of 2016. She replied, “absolutely,” but didn’t provide evidence. Late Tuesday on CNN, Giuliani said “I know she’s lying because I was on the campaign more than she was.” He said Trump was “completely surprised” when WikiLeaks released Democratic emails during the campaign.

Heitkamp, Donnelly to meet Kavanaugh: Sens. Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota and Joe Donnelly of Indiana will be among the first Democrats to meet with Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh on Wednesday. Kavanaugh has met already with Joe Manchin of West Virginia, who like Heitkamp and Donnelly is up for re-election in a state Trump easily won in 2016. Progressives, writes the Hill, say Senate Democrats aren’t doing enough to oppose Kavanaugh.

“I think there’s been broad concern that Democrats haven’t been as united and as crystal clear as they need to be,” said Neil Sroka, a spokesman for Democracy for America.

A first for Connecticut: Jahana Hayes is poised to become the first African-American Democrat to represent Connecticut in Congress, Roll Call reports. Hayes, a former National Teacher of the Year, won the state’s fifth congressional district primary on Tuesday night and will face one of three Republicans in November. The district leans Democratic. Hayes ran on positions including moving toward a single-payer health-care system and passing gun control legislation, CNN reports.
